St George Greek Orthodox Church

St George Greek Orthodox Church

115 Bond Street
Toronto ON M5B 1Y2

The Saint George Community offers a unique religious experience in the heart of a vast metropolitan city. Located in downtown Toronto and within the radius of the city’s major Christian cathedrals, St George’s is a haven of peace and tranquility, and a revered monument that attests to the city’s religious dynamism. The parish reflects the thriving presence of Hellenism amidst Canada’s multicultural diversity. Our community holds historic prominence in the Greek diaspora and is committed to promoting and cultivating the religious tenets of the Orthodox faith. As such, we strive to preserve the rich liturgical traditions and sublime spirituality inherited from Byzantine Christianity; we are fervently committed to bearing witness to the Greek Orthodoxy faith.

Central to our mission of promoting Orthodox Christianity is our Byzantine iconography and the glorious frescoed interior of our sanctuary which is unique both in the exceptional quality of its painting and in the exquisite harmony of its decorative program. In addition to its being a sacred space, the church functions as a visual book and virtual museum where one encounters faithfully reproduced copies of masterpieces of late-Byzantine art. Conscious of this distinct status, our community encourages a meaningful engagement with our sacred icons and offers tours, lectures and publications geared towards enhancing a spiritual and intellectual interaction with these holy images.
