A Patriarch of Saints

A Patriarch of Saints

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Sotirios, who is currently a member of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada and the Ecumenical Patriarchate Archons in Canada are pleased to present a special spiritual homily by a world-renowned theologian and Orthodox clergyman.

Rev. Dr. John Chryssavgis will present A Patriarch of Saints: Contemporary Orthodox Elders Recognized as Saints by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Holy and Sacred Synod.

Since becoming Ecumenical Patriarch in 1991, His All-Holiness, Bartholomew, has presided over the official declaration of sainthood for many pious and grace-filled Orthodox – both contemporary elders, as well as many who confessed and were martyred for their faith in Christ throughout history.

Examples of individuals who have been formally registered as Saints into the Orthodox Church during the Patriarchal tenure of His All-Holiness include: Saints Savvas the New of Kalymnos, Nikolaos Planas, Sophia the Ascetic of Kleisoura, Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia and Paisios of Mount Athos.

More recently, the Ecumenical Patriarch, during a visit to Greece and the Holy Mount Athos last month, announced the upcoming declaration of sainthood for a number of contemporary Athonite fathers including: Elders Ieronymos of Simonopetra, Daniel Katounakiotis, Joseph the Hesychast and Ephraim Katounakiotis.

Please join us at 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Church of St. Nicholas in Toronto to hear and benefit from this unique spiritual offering presented by the Archdiocese and Archons in Canada.

This event, only a few days before the Patronal Feast of the First Throne of Orthodoxy (November 30th – Feast of Saint Andrew the First-called Apostle) is an opportunity to come together in Christian fellowship and to learn more about the new saints of the Church.
